Bulgaria is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. A Bulgarian public document that carries an apostille is accepted in every other member state without further legalization.
Which authority issues the apostille depends on the document: the Ministry of Justice for court and notarial acts, the National Centre for Information and Documentation (NACID) for education documents, the district (regional) administrations for documents issued by municipalities, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for other public documents. We identify the right authority, submit the document and return it to you with the apostille and, if required, with a certified translation.

Frequently asked questions
Which countries accept an apostille?
All countries that are party to the Hague Apostille Convention, including the EU member states, the United Kingdom, the USA, Turkey, Russia, Switzerland and many more. For other countries, consular legalization is needed instead.
Is the apostille placed on the original or on the translation?
It depends on the receiving country and institution. Sometimes the original receives the apostille and is then translated; sometimes both. We check the requirement before we start.
Can you apostille foreign documents?
An apostille can only be issued by the country that issued the document. For foreign documents we coordinate the apostille through our international offices and then translate them for use in Bulgaria.
